This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the smartest, most creative transitional kindergarten students on the planet. And I can't wait to meet them! Unfortunately, our first interactions are on a screen. My school is beginning the year with a distance learning model due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

More than half of our student population qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch.

Most families work outside the home as essential workers. They are hardworking people trying their best to provide all their children need to be successful in school. Yet, supporting learning at home can be challenging for working parents. It is a difficult time for our families. Extra money to purchase educational supplies is not available for many families. Help me to help them make distance learning more accessible and realistically manageable. Recreating hands-on learning experiences at home is the goal. Young children need developmentally appropriate manipulatives and materials to support literacy and the development of mathematical reasoning.

The pandemic has strained school budgets. We teachers are struggling to provide for the basic educational needs of our students. Please help.

My Project

Our tables are smalls and with plexiglass the space is limited. Due to Covid 19 safety precautions students need individual supplies to be stored separately. Sharing supplies is just not at this time. Students now need two separate cubbies. One to store folders, lunches, and personal belongings from home and another to store all their individual school supplies. Our current Cubbie station was once for 20, can only accommodate 10 students today. We need another Cubbie station to give adequate space for all our students. This would make access to materials convenient and uniform for all.
