My Students

My biggest challenge for my students is having technology access in the classroom, for more than one student at a time. My students are the class of 2020 and our call and response helps them set their eye on graduation. Call: I have 2020 vision. Response: I can see clearly now the rain is gone.

My students are very inquisitive and enjoy technology.

They are very visual and auditory learners. We are a Title 1 school, where 95% of students receive free or reduced lunch. I have a group of 150 students who are very energetic and who love a challenge. My students are onboard with watching and making instructional videos, taking notes and quizzes, while away from school. The challenge is many of them do not have access at home. I arrive early everyday to allow those students who need to have time on the computer.

My Project

I teach 8th grade Science at a Title 1 school. Creating a rotating Technology Center with the Microsoft Surface and this will allow my students to to have more hands on time in the classroom for experiments and inquiry. Taking notes and listening to lectures takes a lot of time. Many of my 150 students don't have access to tablets, internet while at home. The Microsoft Surface will allow student to have more access to internet and a working medium to view posts, videos, and take notes. Being able to read online books, will help increase their Lexile levels to prepare them for the New Georgia Milestone Assessments that is the test at the end of the year. Students will be able to write on the Microsoft Surface with the pen or typing on the keyboard, which will assist them with scientific writing. Having a tech center, will allow students to have extended learning as they master content, while I work directly with students who need direct assistance.

Having the Microsoft Surface in my classroom will allow my students an opportunity to create, watch, learn, and have relief in knowing they can work on their notes, videos, and create, while at school.

My goals in having this center, is to increase Lexile levels, preparing them for their end of year assessment, giving my students peace of mind in knowing that they have they can to do their work in school. My students will be better prepared for High School and the graduation year, 2020.
