Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In the last couple of years, roughly 66% of high school students have dropped out of school in New York City.

Since 2009, from the time that I got the opportunity to coach at APR, 100% of my student-athletes have graduated from high school.

My name is Mr. G. I serve as the Boys Varsity Head Coach at APRHS. One of the main hurdles that I have encountered as a head coach yearly, is finding funds for our teams.

The population that I coach is very resilient. They are not your average high school student-athletes. The majority of my student-athletes have extra responsibilities that entail babysitting little siblings, babysitting grandparents, potential after school employment due to family financial hurdles, and most importantly, they still need to meet their academic daily goals. Academia is always top priority in my program!

My Project

Our student-athletes have noticed that professional basketball players and collegiate athletes utilize equipment to improve skill assets in the game of basketball. The ability to jump higher and run faster will allow a student-athlete to compete at the highest level.

The materials at hand will help our student-athletes learn that they can also improve their vertical leap.

This is not a luxury that only the rich and professional utilize. This is something that can be used by anyone truly interested in improving. Many schools including our own are not able to afford this type of product. Financially, this is why we are asking for all hands on deck to help support our student-athletes.
