My Students

“If we want our children to move mountains, we first have to let them get out of their chairs.” Nicolette Sowder.

I work with an amazing group of enthusiastic and energetic third grade students.

They are eager to learn and are creative and inquisitive. They are filled with so much exuberant and positive energy and I want them to be able to exercise their bodies as well as their minds. They live in a densely populated urban area where many of their families live below the poverty line. My students are primarily English Language Learners in which Spanish is the primary language spoken in the home.

My Project

Swing balls and jump ropes of different sizes and types: single jumper, double dutch, even Chinese jump ropes, are an engaging and fun way for my students to exercise their body. Due to the neighborhood’s limited number of public areas for children to play in, many students live sedentary lives. They are unable to go bike riding or skateboarding because of the safety concerns in the area, which curtail their outdoor activities.

While they are in school, I want our PE time to be just as rewarding as our in-class learning.

Introducing students to new jump rope games, double dutch, and Chinese jump ropes, provides new experiences for them. They get to move their body and enhance their knowledge by learning new skills. I adored jump rope as a child, and I want to share that love with my students. Hopefully, they will be just as fond of this activity as I am. “When in doubt, JUST KEEP JUMPING.”
