My Students

Can you speak Mathinese? Our classroom does everyday right after lunch! Our tummies are full and it is math time! Help me bring this Chinese proverb to further life in our classroom: "I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand."

Future class of 2021!

Right now we are an energetic group of 23 second graders in a Texas urban school. The majority of my students' favorite subject is recess, followed by math! They enjoy challenges, eat up hands on experiences, and love social interaction. I know I have future mothers and fathers, doctors, lawyers, engineers, community and military leaders, and astronauts in my classroom!

My Project

Math time consists of interactive learning and small group experiences. I work with a group of students while the remainder of my kids work with each other on various tasks ranging from a computer station, flashcards, vocabulary words and games. Learning to tell time is more beneficial when children have their own mini-clock to manipulate! I want to spice up our math time with the games in the mastering math skills kit and the dice tub. The base ten blocks and unifix cubes are the foundation for a deeper mathematical understanding in a wide range of skills ranging from number sense, patterns, addition, subtraction, and multiplication.

Parents want what is best for their children.

As teachers, we do too! By donating to this project, it will allow my students a visual, tactile, and kinesthetic representation that allow for a real world connection and create a deeper, richer understanding and lay a solid foundation for the many mathematical challenges they will face in their life-time!
