My Students

My school is a Title I school. Over 90 percent of our student population is receiving free or reduced-price lunch, and they are limited in their life experiences due to low socioeconomic backgrounds.

My students are special and come from a household with love and support, but their parents may not have much.

My students are very curious and energetic. Even though the students have many needs, they are eager to learn as much as possible in all areas. They seek out activities that are authentic and enriching. My students are happy to come to school with smiling faces even in this new normal.

My Project

Every year, school nurses measure students' body mass index. One-third of students receive a letter warning of their higher BMI. As a kindergarten teacher, I believe it is my job to teach my students how to make healthy choices for their snacks and the importance of physical activities. As a part of physical education, I can teach them how to use jump ropes. Teaching how to jump rope is a way to learn excellent motor skill-building activities for kindergarten students. Most of my students are learning how to hold a pencil and use scissors. Holding jump rope and learning about motor coordination takes a lot of concentration. Jumping ropes doesn't require any prior preparations and is easy to install in my curriculum. My students can jump few times a week that will help my students burn the calories and stay healthy. After work out, students can enjoy healthy snacks to celebrate their healthy body and mind.
