My Project

We are starting a book club at our school. BUT not just any book club!! This is not your grandma's book club. No, this is a high quality and engaging book club designed for middle school readers. Our students will be invited to read the Junior book award nominees for South Carolina and then vote on the winners in the statewide election in spring 2026.

Let's build literacy together by getting these books in the students' hands and launching our book club today!

Students will be invited to a weekly book club meeting in the library at lunch. They will keep a log of the books they read throughout the year. At each meeting, students will have the opportunity to talk about the book they are reading AND swap books with their friends. This project will ensure that there are multiple copies of the books available for students. You may be asking, what happens to these books? Great question: One hardcover book will be added to the library collection. At the end, the paperback copies will be donated to the classroom libraries of our school's ELA teachers.

Students will be asked to respond to the books they are reading by creating a book recommendation that will be displayed in the school. Also, students who participate in the book club will be able to participate in several statewide competitions including the book award banner, book trailer, and bookmark competition. These competitions are submitted for consideration at the South Carolina Association of School Librarians Conference in March 2026.
