Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are all English Language Learners in Bronx, NY. They are enthusiastic learners and love reading! Many of my students are new to the country, from Bangladesh, Mexico, Albania, or the Dominican Republic, and others have lived in New York their whole lives.

They love reading about sports, animals, music and arts, as well as stories about kids their own age.

They love doing research projects, drawing, writing, and participating in anything hands-on!

My Project

Journaling helps strengthen kids writing and communication skills, improves reading comprehension, and stimulates creativity.

I've requested these beautiful notebooks and cool pens to inspire my students to put pen to page and start journaling.

My students are English language learners in special education classrooms. Many of them have a hard time expressing themselves verbally. Keeping a journal of their thoughts is a great way for them to learn emotional organization.

Writing in journals helps children feel in control of the content they choose to write. I am hoping this control and choice will help make writing more appealing to students while improving written communication skills, grammar and spelling.
