Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are taking on the challenge of learning from home. They are resilient and optimistic about the future. They have powerful voices and willingly share their opinions and ideas.

Our students are creative, curious, kind, and ambitious.

We believe they deserve a world-class education and access to the very best opportunities. Our journalism club seeks to provide a place for students to learn about current events and process our emotions surrounding them. It gives an outlet for our young leader's voices to join in important conversations. We are committed as ever to our students and their well-being and development. Thank you for joining us in this work.

My Project

In September, we met our young journalists for the first time. We were about a month into the new school year, entirely distance learning. The club grew out of an observation that students needed a less structured time together to talk about what was on their mind as well as a virtual opportunity to connect with friends and just be kids.

Our club has grown to 45 students and they have shared already conducted interviews, written letters to the future president, and even been contributors to a real podcast!

We asked them where they would like to go next with the club and it became clear we needed more supplies! They want journals where they can record their work as reporters. They also need supplies like envelopes and stamps so we can send a special edition printed copy of their original newspaper to every student in the school.
