This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Hi! My name is Ms. Medina I teach students who have recently came to the US and students who are still learning the English Language. I decided to start this project because I noticed my students spend a lot of time playing video games and on their phones. I also noticed they have a high interest in sports but when asked if they had equipment at home, they did not. Other students have expressed their interest in drawing as a form to express their feelings and regulate their feelings.

I believe providing the students with those items will help them control their emotions.

We live in a world where a pandemic affected their social and emotional skills. Students are very much involved with technology given the lack of social interactions during the COVID-19 Pandemic. I see these sketch pads and sports balls as their exit ticket to let those emotions out, regulate their emotions, and give their brain more space to concentrate in the classroom more than the problems they may be facing at home.
