My Students

Our morning begins when my first graders join our zoom class to get ready for another great learning day. Though we've never met in person altogether, it is the brightest moment of the day.

My school is considered an inner-city school.

Most of our students are identified as economically disadvantaged. All of our students participate in the National Free Lunch Program. My class consists of 24 first grade students. They are eager learners and try their best to achieve their dream. As their teacher, I want to give them the tools to enrich their learning experience.

My Project

I want to start a book club with my students to provide space for them to talk, share their point of view, ask questions, and interact with each other.

It will promote a love of literature which will help them to be lifelong readers, a sense of belonging which is very hard to get at this time of pandemic, and critical close reading skills as they read to discuss with their peers.

To start the book club, my students need a book, a book of their own that that they can annotate and read anytime they want.
