My Project

I am requesting donations to provide my 4th/5th grade combo class with class sets of three powerful novels: Matilda, Holes, and Esperanza Rising. These books will serve as the foundation for our novel studies, where we will read and discuss each story together, building critical thinking, reading comprehension, and a love for literature. The TPT gift card will be used to buy literacy packets and additional activities that will help us explore each novel more deeply.

Having class sets of these novels will allow all students to engage in shared reading experiences, promoting collaboration, discussion, and deeper understanding of the themes, characters, and lessons in each book.

These novels are not only age-appropriate but also tackle important themes like resilience, kindness, and overcoming adversity, which will help students connect to the material on a personal level.

My goal is to foster a love for reading and enhance students’ critical thinking skills through rich, meaningful stories. I aim to create an inclusive learning environment where every student has access to the same books, allowing them to participate fully in class discussions and activities. I want these novels to inspire curiosity, empathy, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

My students are eager, imaginative, and diverse, each bringing a unique perspective to the classroom. As a combination class of 4th and 5th graders, they work together in a supportive and collaborative environment, always ready to help each other learn. Many come from different cultural backgrounds, and the stories we’ll read will reflect their varied experiences while also introducing them to new ideas and perspectives. They are at an age where stories can shape their view of themselves and the world, and providing them with these books will empower them to think critically and dream big.
