My Students

I am an inclusion early education special education teacher in an eTK general education class of 24 students. 8 of my students are students with identified disabilities who are taught alongside their typical peers (children without disabilities). I want to provide my students with a wonderful learning environment full of hands-on experiences that encourage them to use their creative minds while learning core concepts that will prepare them for the rigor of Common Core Curriculum.

My school is located in a high poverty neighborhood and students participate in the Free and Reduced Lunch Program.

A lack of funding requires that teachers depend on the generosity of others who support public education and spend their own money to provide many of the resources for their students.

My Project

I am asking for two Flex-Seat Comfy Floor Cushions for our students and support staff to use during our small group book club, class discussions, and independent choice time in the library. For many children simply having a defined space helps them attend to the lesson, and persist for longer periods of time. During book club we focus on rereading text, developing their abilities to comprehend more complex text, and we also reenact stories. Having cozy chairs as options other than simply sitting on the rug, make this routine special and children are more likely to remain engaged. Also, we would love to have the House Building Engineering Center for my students to engage in planning and creating a variety of buildings while referring to the photo cards for inspiration and reference. It's amazing to observe how are young learners can be architects and engineers testing out their ideas through hands on learning with a variety of building materials.

Teaching young children can be very challenging, but it is also an amazing gift to be part of the journey over the course of their first year as they begin their classroom education.

Two of my students favorite studies to investigate are Buildings and Balls. We are totally excited about the Create-a-Path Magnetic Center where children can engineer different paths, reconfigure, and test different ways balls move. I love this center because every child can access these materials and create unique designs simply by moving one or two pieces. The possibilities are endless which create lots of opportunity to engage in STEM thinking, problem solving, and design.

Your generosity will make all this fun possible! It's fun to be a kid and your donations will make learning in our classroom even more hands on and engaging!!! Thank you so much!
