My Project

Help my students improve their Mandarin Chinese with a library of books! These books will assist my students in becoming proficient learners of the language as the first cohort of pupils.

As I build the curriculum, I hope to provide students with resources to learn the culture and language within context provided by native speakers.

With appropriate context and support, my students can begin to draw parallels between the target culture and their own.

As a Black woman teaching Chinese, I hope to work to bridge the gap between the world and students of color through relatability and representation. These books will help them build a frame of reference for cultural competence and promote healthy discourse about cultural sensitivity.
