This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a large city in Connecticut where district tensions are high and funding is low. Our preK-8 school is one of the older buildings in the district and we have not had any major renovations and peeling paint, broken fixtures and crumbling floor tiles are a common sight. Students always notice these features and often remark on the state of our building.

Despite our district's financial hardships, my students still deserve to spend their days in a welcoming and attractive learning environment.

My colleagues and I do our best to create appealing, organized classrooms and hallways that showcase student learning and activities.

My Project

We currently have one aging Ellison machine that is shared throughout the building among our twenty-nine classrooms. This die cutting machine is used to manually punch out letters and shapes, one pattern at a time. It has served us well for over 15 years but it is cumbersome and tedious to use- and that's when it's available! Having a modern and efficient cutting machine would allow us to create a much more aesthetically pleasing environment for our students.

Our students are are worthy of an environment that is as beautiful as they are.

The Cricut cutting machine will allow us to create customized paper and vinyl letters, shapes and graphics for use in bulletin board and station displays, classroom signs, labels, and a multitude of student projects.

In addition to making our school look better, these materials will also serve a direct educational purpose. The different academic themed cartridges will be used to customize lesson materials for student assignments that will be displayed throughout our building. Students will also be able to utilize the machine to create paper headers, graphics, and images for visual presentation displays such as science projects and Invention Convention.

The Cricut machine will benefit our entire school from top to bottom and your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
