My Students

"History is so boring," is the statement that breaks a Social Studies teacher's heart. Sadly, it can be true. I teach 6th and 7th grade. My students are used to being connected to technology 24/7. Reading from a textbook is dull and uninteresting. I want to use technology to inspire them.

Our school is in a high poverty area of Mississippi.

Many of our students do not see value in education much less in history. My mission is to help inspire them to move beyond their limited experiences and gain a better understanding of the world around them. The iPad2 will help me fulfill this goal. A lot of my students do not have technology resources at home. The iPad 2 will help them view lessons that I've recorded as well as clips that they might have missed in class. I will also be able to use the iPad 2 as an enrichment activity for my students who are struggling with reading and writing . My accelerated students will also benefit from the added rigor interactive lessons can provide. This iPad 2 will engage and add an extra dimension to my history lessons.

My Project

The iPad 2 is not only a wonderful education tool, but will also serve as a motivational tool for my students. My students are very interested in any technology that can be integrated into the classroom. Up until last year, I didn't have any technology in my classroom except for my teacher laptop. This year thanks to DonorsChoose and wonderful donors I have been able to add technology resources. These resources have had an impact that can not be measured. The iPad 2 can be used in so many different ways. We can read iBooks to improve reading, use the browser to work on research projects, use the camera to film educational videos, and so much more.

The iPad 2 and accessories will open up a new world to my students.

It will hopefully spark an interest in history that will ignite into a flame of passion for learning. My students' eyes will be opened to the interesting world that is outside their limited experiences. This educational and motivational tool will lead my students to not only be successful in 6th and 7th grades, but help create lifelong learners!
