My Students

IPads are about the most exciting thing to hit a classroom, but unfortunately, we don't have one yet! My kids are dying to get their little hands on an iPad for an exciting and relevant learning experience!

Our school is a Title I elementary school located in New York City.

The government has classified 56% of our school's population as economically disadvantaged and every day many students rely upon the free and reduced price lunch program to nourish them. I am a Special Education teacher with a class of 10 wonderful 8- and 9-year-old students who enter each day eager and excited to learn. My students are diagnosed with multiple disabilities including: speech and language impairment, learning disability, autism, emotionally disturbance, ADHD, and other health impairments. Most of my students don't have books at home, let alone electronics like an iPad. I want to provide them with all of the opportunities necessary to become Rockin' Readers and make it exciting as we go. An iPad would put a huge smile on their faces!

My Project

I am requesting a single iPad which will be used in my second/third grade Special Education classroom. The iPad is an incredible tool that has the potential to change the way teachers teach and students learn. Students in my classroom will use the iPad as a tool for learning. They will be able to use it for research and for math and science reviews and games. They will also use it for sharing their learning and presenting projects to their peers. Students will learn valuable technology skills with the iPad which will better equip them for their future in both education and eventually the work force. The iPad is an important tool for meeting the needs of today's students and inspiring them to explore, create, and collaborate!

Having and using an iPad would change the lives of my students.

Many of them may never have the opportunity outside of school to use an iPad due to financial constraints. Thank you for considering helping my students and for your belief in the value of public education. I believe that with support we can truly change the lives of children. I want my students to believe in themselves. I want to show them that not only I, but many people care for them, love them, and believe in them to succeed.
