Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are witty, clever, humorous, and kind. They each have unique personalities and learning styles, with their needs differing greatly.

They are the epitome of resilience, persevering despite the many difficulties they face some faculty and staff have not experienced during their longer lifespans; working closely with them each day is inspiring.

Teaching students with disabilities means I must utilize my creativity, which is what initially brought me to this platform. My students encourage me in ways they may not be aware of. As a result, I constantly seek opportunities and resources to give my students a quality and engaging educational experience.

My Project

These items will help me give my students the opportunity to receive more face-to-face time. Our new schedule allows for teachers to provide office hours to students who need additional assistance outside class. Living and working from home has come with its challenges for teachers and students alike. Among the new changes experienced, remaining seated for the entire school day is new to me.

A chair with lumbar support and a spacious desk will provide comfort and a clear mind as I remain seated while teaching virtually for the foreseeable future.

A chair mat would allow for the chair to move with ease in my carpeted home. A wireless keyboard and mouse, keyboard stand, and wrist support pads will assist with comfort as I spend lots of time creating new documents for my students. A USB port extender will allow me to access and save important documents without the need to unplug the wireless mouse or keyboard. Lastly, a vertical power strip will allow for safety by decreasing cord clutter and preventing overheating when charging devices.

Working in a smaller space has been quite the adjustment. Keeping the essentials nearby on my small writing desk causes constant avalanches, which distracts my students during instruction. The cart and organizers will allow me to keep key items within reach while teaching when I often need to jot notes or grab other items at a moment's notice. The cell phone stand would be extremely helpful as parents with difficulties accessing student meetings via video conference join by phone.

My students and I genuinely appreciate your extended support through these trying times and wish you all continued safety.
