Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is a dual language Kindergarten class. The children are learning to read and write in two different languages (English and Spanish). Most of my students have parents who have migrated from other countries around the world, especially Latin America and the Caribbean.

Most of my students speak Spanish at home, but have learned English through our PreK program at the school.

They will truly benefit from having many different kinds of bilingual books in the classroom to enhance their reading and learning.

My Project

Guided reading books are usually hard to find for the appropriate grade-level, and Spanish guided reading books are even more difficult to find around the school.

These books and materials will help my students learn how to read and write in two different languages.

My students are from low-income families and having enough books in our library will help me provide books for them to borrow and take home so that they can also practice reading with their parents. Family engagement is one of the main reasons why children can be successful in school. Also, I will add some materials such as cushions to my library to provide accommodations for students who might have difficulty seating in a chair to read.
