A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I'm Miss W., and I love to teach Kindergarten! I have the privilege to teach in a Title I school where 55% of our kids are on a free and reduced lunch program. With the downturn of our state economy, our school district is currently in a budget crisis. Drastic cuts have been made with many more to come for the next school year.
Each year my partner teacher and I have 36 new students who enter our school for the first time.
It is my partner teacher and my wish to create a year full of learning but in a creative way. Although there are two of us teaching these students in two separate classrooms all the students are considered both of ours. Students transition to and from both of our joining classrooms throughout the entire day. We are one big happy family!
My Project
It is very important for students to know how to read non-fiction text. They need ways to build their knowledge to understand more about the world they live in. TIME for kids helps them to learn about science and social studies while developing academic vocabulary and beginning reading skills.
Providing my students with a subscription to TIME for kids will allow them a place to access answers to all their curiosities about our world.
I plan on using this resource in my classroom as a way to integrate reading with science and social studies. This would become an important part of our daily reading lessons. We also use these to help students begin to write informative pieces. It is a great resource to use for research for little ones. They can find the article that interests them and use it to inform their friends through writing.
Kindergarten is such an important grade to get students interested and excited to read. TIME will capture students' interests and inspire them to read more, as well as to share and discuss with their peers.
