My Students

This is a busy setting that tends to be chaotic at times. I would like students to master organizational skills, and be reading on grade level by the end of the school year. Our mantra is "It's time to get busy"...time to work, time to focus, time to achieve our daily goals.

My students are composed of different cultural backgrounds; mostly Blacks and Hispanics.

They are eager to learn, however, a lot of them lack the foundational skills to function independently. With that being said, they are curious being and are always asking questions. Although, they can't read yet, they love "story time". The school is located in a high poverty neighborhood. It is a community school that services Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade. It has a bilingual program as well. There are over 700 students enrolled and at the present time with 75 employees that include instructional and non-instructional staff.

My Project

The seat sacks will provide easy access to their reading, math, and composition books used for daily instruction. The desk will be left clear of clutter so that students can start quick, be focused, and on task. It will help students be organized with their materials. The pockets would provide spaces for various items used throughout the day. Valuable time would be saved by having the seat covers and more time can be focused on academics skills. The Time Magazine will be used to introduce real life topics related to our lessons. It will expose them to fiction and non-fiction texts to broaden their vocabulary and critical thinking skills. They will also learn about text features. It will help with their creative writing skills.

With these seat covers, the classroom will be more structured which will provide more instructional time.

Students will take ownership of their belongings and learn to be responsible. The magazine will be another type of reading material added to their library. They will be exposed to science, technology, politics and stories of special interests that happens around the world. It will build their vocabulary and fluency and help them with their creative writing skills.
