Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
To say that our students have had to overcome a lot over this past year is an understatement. Not only have they had to deal with normal societal and economic pressures, but they've had to do so during a worldwide pandemic. Since returning to school, they are stronger, resilient, and more ready to take on the world!
Our school is a Title I urban school with the most diverse population in our district.
Over 66% of our students qualify to receive free or reduced-price lunches. Our sweet students come from diverse backgrounds and bring a large array of experiences to our classrooms and school. School becomes a safe haven for these scholars - where expectations are the same every day and basic needs are met. While they come to school to learn, they thrive when they are given the opportunity to utilize a variety of resources to make learning real and fun.
My Project
Access to Time for Kids will give my students access to the news and views of the world - more important now than ever! Time for Kids will appeal to a variety of reading interests and levels and allow more opportunities for writing and discussion in our classroom! In the past, Time for Kids has also proven to be an engaging tool for both reluctant and voracious readers.
TIME magazines include detailed high-quality photographs to generate interest in the subject.
These magazines are also designed with children in mind so the topics of each article are selected carefully. It is my hope that bringing TIME for Kids into the classroom will foster a lifelong love of reading non-fiction texts
