Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach first grade in an inner city Title I school. 80% of my students are eligible for free lunch. My students are eager to learn, but their range of ability varies tremendously.

This year upon reviewing my math assessments, I realized that many of my students did not master coin recognition and coin counting. Other than plastic coins, I don't have much else to use. My class needs more exposure to coins and money and differentiated instruction in this area.

The money cubes are fun-to-roll cubes that really get students excited about math — as they count and compare coin combinations with pennies through dollar coins! The set includes 18 sturdy foam cubes featuring securely embedded plastic coins. The realistic magnetic coins make it easy for students to understand money concepts! The bulletin board coins will be used on the math word wall to show students the name of the coin and what it looks like. Students will have the daily practice they need to solve word problems with confidence using the daily problem solving flip chart! The chart has 30 double-sided flips that present 60 different word problems—providing skill-building practice with everything from operations and money to algebraic thinking. Students work independently or in small groups to solve each problem! Students can master algebraic functions and increase computational speed—with fun math machines they can use independently! Each chipboard machine comes with 100 self-checking activity cards, plus 4 write & wipe mats, so up to 4 students can work at once.

With your generosity my students will become proficient at coin recognition and coin counting. They will also master math facts and problem solving abilities. Due to severe budget cuts these resources will not be available without your support.
