Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach seventh grade students who are diverse, enthusiastic and eager to learn. Ninety-two percent of our school community comes from low income families with free or reduced price lunch. The parents struggle to provide their children with the necessary, but expensive schools supplies. Many of the parents work two to three jobs just to put food on the table and are unable to afford simple supplies such as binders, pencils, paper and student planners.

As a Social Studies teacher, it is my goal to foster their education and connect their knowledge and skills to the "real world".

I feel it is my responsibility to teach my students great organization skills, in addition to Social Studies, which they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. Each student holds a special place in my heart and by providing them with just a few school supplies, the stress of learning can be lifted and the joy of learning can take its place.

My Project

All school supplies are essential to learning in the classroom. Binders are a great way to divide and organize content so that the students can create a reference of information that they can use on a daily basis. Student planners are also a great tool for students to stay organized, but are sometimes too expensive and are left off the back to school shopping list.

Building great organizational skills now, will help my students succeed in the future.

I also find it very important for my classroom to stay organized, so I can set an example for my students. Work folders are a huge part of our learning. We always keep track of our data by saving culminating assignments throughout the year. Each student has a folder with a data sheet so that throughout the year, they can set goals and see their progress.
