This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a Special Education English Language Arts teacher in a high needs NYC public school. I service children with academic delays and who are classified as emotional disturbed. My students desperately need some organizational tools in our independent learning center.

The children I encounter on a day to day basis are faced with insurmountable obstacles.

In addition to their Special Education classification, some live in shelters, others have parents incarcerated, siblings in gangs, etc. Often they come to school stressed and frustrated by their environment. Since their lives are so unpredictable and chaotic I would like to create a calm learning environment. A place where they know what to expect and where to find the materials they need.

My Project

I am requesting a Turn & Learn Mobile Chart Stand so students can easily identify their instructions and resource material for their independent activity. I can have everything set up for the class before they arrive and just turn a pole to set up for the following class in under a moment. This cart also enables me to hang a resource chart or poster next to instructions for student to reference. I am also requesting 3 magnetic bins so that I can have necessary materials stored under the chart stand for easy access. These materials will empower student learning and help build self esteem because they will learn that they can successfully accomplish tasks on their own.

Supplying my classes with this learning resource would give the students more time to focus on our assigned tasks.

Your help is desperately needed to help our room function properly. My students and I depend on proper conditions for our class to run well.
