My Students

My students are wonderful, beautiful, strong, stubborn, independent, loud, nerdy, athletic, patriotic, and kind. I want all of them to love coming to school every single day.

I have met some of the best people I will ever know because I am their teacher.

They bless me every single day with the amazing and unique ideas, problems, and solutions they present to me. If children are our future, our future is going to be amazing with these kids at the helm!

Our school is a full Title I school and more than 50% of our students get free lunch. I can't change that statistic, but what I can do is to inspire them, teach them, nurture them, and love them. Work hard, play hard. That is my classroom motto. I don't always have the resources necessary to make the academic times fun, but I've been blessed by donors all over America!

My Project

Sometimes kids HATE reading. They do, and it stinks. I try to encourage my students to find something they enjoy reading and then to read all of it that is offered. Sometimes that is Harry Potter, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, or Dork Diaries. All of those are fiction and I want my kids to get thirsty for non-fiction books. That is where the Who Was books come in to play. EVERY child I've introduced the Who Was books to has loved them and wanted to read multiple books.

The Who Was books in my classroom have been read to death, so it is time for some new ones.

Help me with this! After reading the book, children are then assigned to create a pizza box book report. The book report includes many basics and some Ah ha! moments. The different papers and the markers will help to decorate the boxes. The adhesive dots and adhesive spray will help items stay glued in place. The printer ink will allow them to experiment with different pictures of their character in addition to giving emphasis to special words. The children really love this project! It is much more fun and engaging than a standard report, even though it presents the same type of information.

The final part of the project is to design a business card that promotes whatever business endeavors their character was involved in and to create a thank you note to our Donors Choose heroes.
