My Project

Our special education resource room has recently received a wonderful new phonics program to help with decoding and spelling. We have only been using it a for a few months, but are already seeing great success. Seeing 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students realize that they, too, can read is the most amazing feeling and it is really boosting their confidence as well.

The problem, however is storage.

Each phonics pattern comes with its own lesson and materials that target a specific letter/sound pattern. Each lesson comes in a hanging bag to hold these materials. There are 8 units, each with about 8 lessons, totaling about 36 bags. The bags are currently sitting in hanging file folders inside of crates. The crates are large and are not stackable, nor can they sit safely on the upper shelves of our bookshelves. The 8 crates required to hold the materials are sticking out of the bottom shelves of our book cases and on the floor. The students frequently trip over them trying to access other materials. I have already requested a donation for one storage cabinet for this amazing new phonics program, but I am not sure all the bags would fit in one cabinet. I would be extremely grateful for a single cabinet, but am requesting a donation for a second cabinet in hopes of getting all the crates off the floor.
