My Students

My students enjoy working on the computers to practice their ELA and math skills, but we need headphones so that everyone can focus.

I teach in an urban school with high poverty (90+ percent receive free/reduced lunch) and a population that includes nearly 30% English Language Learners.

Most of our ELLs came to the United States as refugees from countries like Burma, Bhutan and Somalia. The culture of our school encourages students to be active participants in their own education. Although we have challenges to overcome, there is always a positive and open attitude toward learning in our school.

My Project

My students use a Common Core aligned computer program once a week to practice English Language Arts skills. Unfortunately, headphones are scarce in our computer labs. We would like to have our own headphones to take to the lab so that we can do our work without every computer playing out loud.

Having headphones means that each student can focus on his or her own work without being distracted by the noise coming from other computers.

The program we use is excellent and will build students skills, but only if they can hear the activities! These headphones are a simple fix to our problem.
