My Students

Our elementary school is an urban Title I school where the vast majority of students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

What we lack in resources, we make up for in fun!

Each year, my approximately 25 energetic and fun first grade students' favorite memories include daily read alouds, literacy and math stations, STEM projects and experiments, singing, dancing, and a variety of different art and writing projects. How cool that their favorite memories include so much learning! One of the best things about first graders is that they love to learn!

My Project

It is that time of year again! A new school year is just around the corner filled with the excitement and nerves of students and teachers. Flexible seating continues to work very well in my classroom. However, I have struggled to find seating for my floor table that is both comfortable and easily cleanable. My hope is that these comfy cushions will fit the bill since they have backs and are machine washable. In addition, we need replacement headphones and chart paper for anchor charts. And finally, I am continuing my annual request for weekly readers because they are an excellent way to teach vocabulary and reinforce important social studies and science curriculum.

The high quality pictures in Scholastic Magazines coupled with the online games and videos anchor unknown vocabulary, making it easier for beginning readers to learn and experience reading success.

Weekly readers also help to bridge the gap between classroom learning and home by providing an active way to bring new vocabulary into the household. But perhaps most importantly, students love them!

Thank you so much for your help! By funding this project, you will help me provide comfortable seating and bring words and abstract ideas to life while developing important reading concepts for low-income students.
