My Project

My favorite part of teaching art to children is witnessing the A-HA! moment when they fall in love with the process and the result of making art. It's easily the most fulfilling aspect of my career. This year, I want to do something extra special for my kindergarten students as they head into first grade.

Despite their wild energy, when they come to art class, something truly magical happens – they become eager to know what the project is.

Many of my students come from many backgrounds and have experienced hardships with their families being refugees and immigrants.

I envision creating a magical experience where they get to choose how to draw their own zoo animal. With over 100 kindergarteners this year, I want each student to receive a stuffed animal, learn how to draw and paint their chosen animal, and also have the opportunity to take their creation home to cuddle. I want to be able to create an immersive experience as we don't have funding for the students to go to the zoo so with tablecloths and decor I will be able to create a lasting memory for them.
