Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

These are unprecedented times! Never did I imagine saying goodbye to my passionate eighth grade students in the middle of March. My students have bravely stepped up to face the new territory of remote learning and my horrible jokes over a video camera. However, this is not enough.

My students are missing out on their highly-anticipated end of the year activities: Six Flags, the eighth grade banquet, and walking across the stage at graduation.

I believe my students' social and emotional health is just as important as their academic accomplishments. I wish to show them a grand gesture of support and celebration--even if it can't be on a stage.

My Project

Throughout the year, my students have overcome many challenges. They have pushed themselves to become stronger readers and writers. They have come to school trying their best despite facing language barriers, learning disabilities, the pressure of gangs, and unsupportive learning environments at home.

My students have proven to me time and time again that they are true champions.

They continue to work hard and remain positive during remote learning even though their eighth grade graduation ceremony, a crowning achievement of all of their hard work, has been stolen from them.

Nothing can replace that feeling of walking across the stage in front of their families. However, I will do my best to try. When my students walk out the door, they will see a sign boldly pronouncing their accomplishments, their parents ready with their cameras, along with a teacher (blasting commencement music, I might add) who has witnessed their efforts every step of the way. Please help me make this surprise celebration happen!
