My Students

It's a brand new classroom! I have the amazing opportunity of teaching in a 5th grade classroom in a Title 1 school in Pennsylvania this year! My students need to feel comfortable in their new room especially with a new teacher!

5th graders are full of wonder and crave knowledge.

My students are no different! They are funny, silly and full of life. It is an economically diverse class - some are ready to go with everything they need while some struggle to have something to write with. Our school strives to better our students' lives both inside the classroom and out.

My Project

Where is your favorite place to cozy up with a great book? I don't imagine that it is sitting at a desk in a straight backed chair. Yoga mats provide a comfy spot anywhere in a room for a child to lose themselves in a literary world. What is a classroom with out color? Crayons, markers, colored pencils! While writing I want my students to have carte blanche when it comes to writing implements. Their readers and writers workshop notebooks need to reflect themselves as individuals - what better way to do this then with color? My classroom will have a 'Wall Of Fame' displaying what each student feels is their best work, be it their favorite writing piece, the great mark they got in math or a silly picture. The clipboards will provide their own space that is easily interchangeable. Finally, my students will be cooped up in our classroom on rainy and cold days for recess. They need some games to "take a mental break" from their hard-working day!

Our fifth grade will be gaining 18 new students this year and a new teacher (me!).

I want to create a family in our classroom where my students are comfortable with each other and themselves. These items are just a small way that I will begin to accomplish this.
