My Students

In our high-poverty K-5 elementary school, we have 215 bright eyed and energetic students in my who are eager to learn! Each of these curious minds come from varying backgrounds and nationalities. Despite the many challenges they face both inside and out of the classroom, they long to be a part of creative and meaningful learning experiences. Some of my students are learning English as their second language and others struggle due to learning disabilities.

I want my students to have the resources they need in order to be successful both inside and outside of the classroom.

The students come to school each day, but unfortunately many of their families cannot always afford to supply them with basic nurturing materials that many of us take for granted. Nevertheless, the children come to school eager to learn and ready to persist throughout the school year.

My Project

With the addition of two Apple iPad minis to our our school, the unique learning opportunities across all subject areas will be endless. Being that these technologies are portable, my students will be able to move freely around the room to quiet and cozy places when doing center work. During Math and English center times, my students will be able to practice typing and explore educational apps and videos that will support our practices in the classroom. Additionally, I intend to create web-quests that align with our common core standards so that my pupils can interact with the world around them. I know that my students will also be excited to finally be able to publish their paragraphs that they create in writer's workshop and feel the gratification of a finished product. The iPad minis will also enable the children to be cognitively engaged in activities that are differentiated according to their learning styles.

I strive to make our classrooms student centered, exciting, and engaging each day.

The addition of these 21st century technologies will impact my students' learning in precisely this way. The children will leave first grade with experience on a piece of technology they can add to their repertoire of life-long knowledge. Please help me to provide my 21st century learners with iPad minis to help them continue to learn and grow!
