Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Since COVID-19 has entered our world, I have noticed a need for more hands on and social learning experiences in my classroom. Many of these students are sensory seeking and need tools to help them stay engaged in the classroom. They need fidget items and weighted blankets for our calming space to help them self-regulate.

These items will allow for all needs to be met from supplies to social emotional skills and allow for self regulation in my little scholars.

I strive daily to bring engaging and necessary experiences into my classroom for my students, and these items will help me do that! Magnets during social play can help them with their sharing and social skills, skills they sometimes lack due to loss in instruction. Conversations in play result from many pretend play scenarios. Having an ice cream stand will provide rich social and expressive play.

Having a wide variety of seating options in my classroom will allow for choice, when students need to wiggle a little. They can use the stools, cushions, chairs and stand. Having options available to them will increase their engagement and impact their learning positively. White boards will allow them to learn and work from anywhere in the classroom, when they’re feeling wiggly.

Since COVID I have noticed many students are not able to bring supplies, that seems to affect them as well. I'd like to help supply the markers and playdoh they need in order to be successful. To discuss emotions and help them understand social skills I want to incorporate writing daily about how we’re feeling using primary journals. In order to meet students where they are and guide them since the pandemic, we need tools and help, and this project can help do just that.
