I teach two classes of third grade math through departmentalization. Many students enter my class viewing math as a dreaded subject, while others already have a small spark waiting to be lit. They express many concerns: "It's boring," "I'm not good at it," "Math is too complicated," "When will I use this?" and "Nothing ever makes sense in math." My response? "That's only because you haven't experienced math with me!"
Through hands-on exploration and real-life math connections, I am proud to say that I am able to create a classroom full of math lovers.
My little learners become eager to start a new week and see what engaging activities I have planned. By launching a variety of projects, I am able to reach the majority of the students in my classroom. Nothing brings a smile to my face like hearing my students cry out, "No way, math is over already?" after dedicating 90 minutes to study.
My project requests items to help throw my wonderful students a much deserved end of year party. Many of them returned to campus in October, in hopes of improving their scores and returning to some normalcy. My in-class students and virtual learners have been working hard to learn the concepts they missed last year when COVID first began, as well as learn their new standards for this year.
With such a rough school year, and the ending of the school year approaching... I would love to throw my two classes an end of year party to celebrate their hard work and dedication.
The candy will be used to award students during and after testing for their commitment to getting through the exam. The soda, chips, and cookies will be given to the students during our end of year party. The paint materials will also be used during the end of year party to give my students a chance to express their feelings toward the year that has passed. They will create a collage of the awesome memories we shared, as well as some experiences that may have been difficult for them.
