My Students

I tell my kids that they are the future and now I need to make it a hopeful one. I can make reading and writing exciting on my own so now I need help to make science something special. Our school science kits serve their purpose but my kids need to do more hands-on activities.

My school is the best in the world.

We are loved by our families, our neighbors, and of course by our students and staff. We are a population of inner city citizens and wide world travelers who have settled in our fair city. At last count there were over thirteen languages spoken at our school. Our spirits are high and so is the number of students on free and reduced lunch. We have potlucks and tutoring programs but can not afford to do any in-house fund raising. My kids are bright and full of energy and I can not stand for either to be wasted.

My Project

I have an amazing partnership with a local high school. For the past eleven years they have partnered with my students to provide exciting science activities to supplement the regular curriculum. We have made liquid nitrogen ice cream as well as vegetable oil lava lamps. My kids love it. Cool high schoolers doing big science with them? Oh Yeah! Now we want rockets. This water rocket launcher I am requesting allows the students to make rockets that can launch around a hundred of feet in the air, just from plastic soda bottles!! My high school counter part has already created a safety plan to keep things going smoothly. That is where the safety goggles come in. Safety and stylish! Who doesn't look good in science goggles? The air pumps go with the launcher and the Time for Kids are a very clever addition. We can read about cool and crazy current science and other non-fiction before we go shoot our rockets off. Nice hook, huh?

NASA is but a shadow of it former self.

Who knows when my students will be able to see an American space launch again? At my school, the answer is as soon as this project is funded and the weather has cleared. Make way for the soda bottle space brigade!!! We will test aerodynamics and weight distribution. We will launch for height and hang time and talk about what each means. And believe it or not, I TEACH SECOND GRADE!!!! Please support science, creativity, inter-grade team work and fun.
