Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are classified as special education students. They are classified with different disabilities, most prominent speech, learning disabled and language difficulty. Many of the students who attend the school live in homeless shelters. More than three-quarter of my students are from low-income households and these students qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch. The school also provides uniforms, food, and various other supplies to the students who are housed in homeless shelters. My school is made up of 47% English Language Learners.

My students are low-level readers but have a great passion for books, a passion for learning, and they try really hard despite their disability.

The students in my class come from all cultures, such as Ghana, Puerto Rico, and America. My students smile every day and are eager to learn new things. They like to use their fine motor skills to create and construct things.

Despite my students' disabilities, I push them hard to come close to grade level in the content area. I always tell my students a disability is a condition, it doesn't define who you are. So, with that being said, I have high expectations for my students.

My Project

I teach Students with disabilities. Some of my students have an Intellectual Disability where they struggle with just recognizing letters or simple three letter words.

With the materials I will be able to help my students in a fun and engaging way learn their alphabets and simple three letter words.

This will help them with their reading because it would allow them to start decoding simple words and this will help the student move in their reading.

These materials would also allow my student(s) to become more engaged and foster a sense of independence in their learning.
