My Students

My students are energetic, resourceful, and ambitious. They inspire me to keep going when I'm ready to call it a day. They come from all 5 boroughs of NYC and are as diverse as the city itself. It's a gift to get to see them support each other and grow as a community.

They are excited to learn about life outside of New York City and experience the world beyond.

This field trip will allow them to broaden their perspectives and become more worldly global citizens.

My Project

Sophomores and Juniors from a title 1 high school in Manhattan embark on a cultural exchange with students from a high school in Martha's Vineyard. Going to school off Wall street within the Financial District is a diverse, hectic and urban experience. By visiting the quiet island of Martha's Vineyard, home of an old whaling industry with its own ethnic diversity many students experience a quiet night in the woods for the first time.

These young New Yorkers learn more about what makes them different from their Martha's Vineyard counterparts, as well as what makes them the same.

Expanding their frames of reference offers them opportunities to work on networking and interpersonal skills with peers from different communities.
