My Students

Every student enters speech therapy with individualized goals. As their Speech Therapist it is my job with the support of a unified team to help make their dreams a reality. As stated by Joel Osteen, “Do all you can to make your dreams come true.”

I have a diverse population of students with varying struggles, however one common ground.

They all need Speech and Language services to progress and support their ability to learn. Many of my students are Speech and Language Impaired struggling with Receptive and Expressive Language, as well as Articulation. They are not understood by others. Many have trouble talking about thoughts and feelings and following directions. Most of my students have problems with reading and writing. Other students are Autistic and demonstrate difficulties communicating and expressing their wants and needs.

My Project

Currently my students utilize little technology during Speech Therapy. During sessions, we use books, visual cues and created charts. An iPad would be used to improve their literacy development, writing abilities and language abilities through the use of technological resources available. It would also be a highly motivational tool, allowing students to self monitor their Speech and Language abilities. It would assist in tracking students progress and assist in providing visual and auditory feedback.

An iPad can be a strong learning tool for students, giving them the opportunity to learn by interacting with technology.

It can motivate students by providing visual/aural stimulation and allowing them to take a more active role in their learning. Specifically for speech sessions, the iPad can record conversational samples and help to track student progress. In addition, there are apps that support literacy, writing and communication. The possibilities are endless.
