Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in both the 11th and 12th grade. Many of my students cannot afford computers, leaving them unable to complete school assignments and projects. My students are really eager to incorporate technology in their learning but don't have the means to do so.

We live in a world where technology plays an important role in our everyday lives.

My students are constantly using technology outside of the classroom, only to be told that they can't use technology in the classroom. This project would allow students and teachers to integrate technology into their everyday learning. Currently, my school has one laptop cart, consisting of twenty functioning laptops, for over 500 students. Teachers who would like to incorporate technology into their rooms can't because they do not have the resources. All my students will be entering college within the coming year, and have little understanding of how to communicate online. This is a vital skill that students will need both at the college level and in life.

My Project

Students will be using these iPads in various ways. The iPads will be used in classrooms to help students work on projects/assignments, increase communication with teachers, and allow teachers to provide instant feedback to students virtually. Furthermore, students will gain valuable experience in navigating online forums, and participating in online discussion boards. Not only will students be using these iPads in my ELA classroom, but they will also have the opportunity to use this technology within their science and math classes. These iPads allow for all content areas to utilize technology, and to engage students in a way that hasn't been available to them.

Teachers are always looking for new ways to engage their students in learning.

Students love technology; their lives revolve around their phones, computers, and tablets. It is no shock that students are not fully engaged when it comes to reading a literary text, but through the integration of technology teachers can begin to create engaging lessons for students.
