My Students

I teach in a large, public, inner-city school. My students are wonderful third graders who struggle with learning due to a learning, language, attentional or emotional need. Learning a typical curriculum-differentiated to minimize the effects of their disabilities-the students are becoming problem solvers, reflective communicators, and active citizens of the school, community, and world.

Furthering my students' ability to think deeply and explain their thinking clearly and confidently is a huge priority in my classroom.

This can be an added challenge for students that are English Language Learners or students with speech-language issues. I am looking for ways to increase student engagement in and responsibility for their own learning.

My Project

I am requesting two iPads to use in my classroom to encourage student engagement while developing academic and technology skills. All of my students are motivated by technology. Each one of my students has a variety of strengths and needs. It is my job to engage my students, meet them where they are academically, and help them get to where they need to be.

The iPads will allow me to differentiate how students practice or reinforce and maintain learned skills.

Students' will also be able to use the iPads for research and access intervention programs on the iPad. The use of technology will also help to bridge the technology divide that is present for most of my students who live in poverty.
