Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students live in one of the most under-resourced communities in Brooklyn. Many face significant challenges, with some living in shelters and traveling long distances to get to school each day. Most come from single-parent households, and many reside in nearby housing projects.

Despite these hardships, my students are incredible.

They are creative, talented, and artistic children who bring so much energy and enthusiasm to school. They love being here, surrounded by their friends and teachers, and they thrive in our close-knit community.

Our school is predominantly African American, with a small percentage of Hispanic students. About 97% of them rely on the free lunch program, underscoring the financial challenges they face. Yet, their passion for art shines through every day.

They are curious, fun, and full of life. Art-making is more than an activity for them—it’s a powerful tool for learning, expression, and growth. They love exploring new materials, experimenting with techniques, and finding creative ways to share their stories.

To help nurture their creativity and integrate 21st-century learning into the classroom, I am requesting three iPads for our art program. These devices will allow my students to:

- Create digital art using specialized apps

- Document and assess their artistic growth

- Engage in inquiry-based learning by researching artists, cultures, and techniques

- Explore animation, photography, and other media that inspire innovative thinking

Access to iPads will not only expand their artistic possibilities but also give them vital exposure to technology, preparing them for future academic and professional opportunities.

Your support will make a profound difference in their learning experience. Thank you for helping us inspire these talented young artists and provide them with the tools they need to thrive.
