My Students

I have all the K-2nd Graders in our town and we have a mix of both rural and urban students. We also have a growing population of English Language Learners. Art is one place these students can feel successful, as art does not rely upon their developing English skills.

Each one of 600 students come to my classroom for art.

We are a Choice-Based Art classroom. The students are the artists and our classroom is their studio. We discuss and try a variety of art making processes. My students are learning independence and choice-making, as well as, art.

My Project

We currently have several iPads already in use in our class room. We use them with both my regular and special needs students. For students with fine motor difficulty or sensory needs the iPad accommodates their learning style. My other students are able to utilize the various applications to create anything from digital drawings to animated movies. The possibilities for the use of the iPad in the Art room are continuing to grow as new apps are being created everyday.

Art is a huge part of our everyday lives.

Whether we think about it or not. We are surrounded by visual imagery. It is more important now than ever before that children are exposed to a variety of art techniques. Digital art is one that fits perfectly into our digital world and allows for all students to express and share their ideas. Students are expected to have a basic understanding of technology and how to use it at a very early age. But utilizing the iPad's technology in the Art Room students discover the various ways technology can be used.
