My Students

Technology touches almost every part of our lives and communities. Yet, many of my students lack the opportunity to engage in using technology. By using the iPads, I will help integrate modern ways of communication, problem solving and critical thinking.

My students are the best part of my day.

They are creative, unique and open-minded. They all have different interests, but they will stop and listen to the ideas that drive their classmates. The buzz in my classroom is undeniable, and it is because of the motivation my students have to learn. My school is a Title 1 school that serves disadvantaged kids from all five boroughs. For most students, the classroom is the only place they have opportunities to use books and technology. My school is also part of the Nest Program, where four students with autism spectrum disorders are integrated with neuro-typical students. Together with OTs, PTs, and Speech and Language Pathologists, we help provide a "nest" for the students in the program and throughout the school. I work with some of the most dedicated people I know and could not be prouder of the work that our team does to ensure our students' success.

My Project

I am requesting 2 iPad minis and 2 cases to tap into and explore their mathematical limits! With the integration of the Common Core, we have less time to practice math fluency in the classroom. In order to aide my students in their math fluency, I will organize centers around the room, including a center with iPads. In addition to having many quick games to practice, the iPads will serve as a motivator in my classroom. They will learn how to quickly add, subtract, and multiply using a variety of apps. After learning these basic skills, my students will use these skills to set up a class "pop-up-shop." We will use the camera to record advertisements to send to other classrooms in our school to visit our "pop-up-shop." In addition, we will use the iPad to track customers, add and subtract for change, and multiply prices for multiple items. After the "pop-up-shop" we will use the iPad to track how much we use of the money to go on field trips that connect to our curriculum!

My students are already so excited to become "shop owners," if they have the technology component to go along with it, they will be through the roof!

The iPad minis will allow my students to learn necessary skills in a real-world situation. This project will truly change the lives of each of my students!
