My Students

Technology is here and now! Technology can be the difference between a student learning how much fun reading can be and not reading at all. It can be the difference between engaging a student in math or having the child struggle. This tablet will give us a new way to look at learning!

I have a class of 18 middle to low income students.

We are in a rural school district. My students are in love with technology and so am I. The first week of school they began working on a video to advertise our battery recycling program. Many of the students enjoy school, but there are many who are more apprehensive or who struggle in reading and math. Using this tablet will help engage and energize them to learn and act responsibly. Digital book talks are among the many projects planned for this equipment. Students will build their own reviews and share them with other students both locally and in communities around the world. Other students in our school will benefit from these book talks as they look at new books to read. My students will be more eager to expand their view on what books they are willing to read.

My Project

A child I know, who had not willingly read a book in almost a year, recently had a chance to fiddle with an e-reader his grandmother had received as a gift. Within just a few minutes this child stated that he would love reading if he could use one on a regular basis. He saved his allowance, did extra chores and worked a part-time job to purchased one of his own. In the three months since he is reading his 5th book and has several more ready to go! Engaging reluctant readers with technology is a common story. They also become better readers since they can easily look up words and hear pronunciations. A tablet can do this and more! With the tablet we also can use QR codes to connect books to the author websites and books talks to help choose books. The camera gives students opportunities to document their learning and connect with students in other communities. The list of possibilities is endless! Help me connect my students with this technology.

Using this tablet will be a huge opportunity for my students.

I have a number of students who need that special something to get them fired up about learning. I am convinced that technology will make a difference. They are plugged in at home in many ways...I want to reach out to them and connect with them on their level. Computers and technology is our future. These children are our future too.
