My Students

My students are from a rural, southern area of Georgia. We are a Federal Title 1 school - meaning that more than 50% of the students that we serve are classified in poverty, and over 1/3 of our students are minority.

It is not unusual for a student to let me know that he or she has never been outside of the county or much further than the town limits.

Many times, the only window my students have to the outside world is in my classroom. We are academically diverse, with students of all levels working together and helping each other.

My Project

An iPad inspires creativity and hands on learning with features you won't find in any other educational tool and on a device that students really want to use. Powerful built-in apps and apps from the App Store let students engage with content in interactive ways, find information in an instant, and access an entire library where ever they go. And now, with the introduction of multi-touch textbooks, iPad takes learning to a whole new level.

From birth to death, students are surrounded by technology.

Mounting pressure to meet state curriculum requirements and assessment tests means current events rarely get discussed thoroughly. Current events are something that can used every day if a a teacher has the skill and the imagination to connect the present to the past. An iPad collection will allow us to look through online magazines, news stations and see what is going on in the world around us.
