My Students

Imagine 5 years old not being able to communicate their challenges to the teacher because they hadn't developed the language skills to explain their thoughts.

Many of our kindergarten students in our co-taught inclusion classroom have autism and face just this challenge.

They learn best using clear visuals and love technology. Due to budget cuts in our urban school, including reassigning resources as many of the schools in our area were severely damaged as a result of the recent Hurricane Sandy, our students do not have access to the technology tools that have been found to have positive results in their learning and communication skills.

My Project

iPads provide the visual stimulation and tools that research has shown to be effective with students on the spectrum. The iPads can be used to provide a visual schedule of the day or visual steps of the learning activity. There are many apps that can help students understand social situations that may be confusing. The iPad can also provide a motivational reward system for completing challenging tasks.

Receiving an iPad will help our students grow and learn as students as well as develop communication skills to meet their needs.

We have wanted iPads for our students for years and are so thrilled that we now have the opportunity to provide them as a resource for our students through DonorsChoose. Help us help our students become the best learners they can be through the amazing technology of an iPad!
