My Students

My students are digital natives who absolutely love music class. Imagine the joy in learning that could be found by combining both the technology that they are accustomed to with the musical experiences they love. Help provide iPads for my students through the support of this project.

I have the pleasure of serving students in a diverse community.

These students adore learning about music through traditional singing games, playing instruments, music listening, and movement. Handheld devices have become a normal part of their every day lives and they would love nothing better than the opportunity to augment and capture their traditional music learning through the use of an iPad.

My Project

My students can use this iPad to record audio and video as a portfolio of their musical experiences. Students can use this iPad to create reports, use Web 2.0 tools to conduct research of musical topics and demonstrate their learning. Students can also use various apps to practice musical skills. Our new textbook is designed to work well with devices and has a variety of virtual instruments that students can play in conjunction with our traditional instruments.

Our school is in a high growth area.

As a result, there is an ever increasing need for iPads as we find new ways to use them and as we create new homerooms. Last year when we had a smaller number of students there was an entire set of iPads available for us to check out for music class. However, as new homerooms have been created, those iPads have rightfully gone into classrooms. Meanwhile, we are working toward creating a 2:1 ratio in music. This will be our 4th iPad from donorschoose.org.
