Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds, with over 80% of our students receiving free lunch, making us a Title I school.

Our school is also an ethnically diverse school in Washington, DC.

Students speak different languages at home, including English, Spanish, Amharic, French, etc. Since our students are so diverse, I'd also like for their learning to be diverse so we're always doing projects and different activities to expand their knowledge. We're lucky to be in the lively city of Washington, DC so there are many opportunities for us to explore our city and learn from our beautiful community.

My Project

I teach English language learners in a Title I school, and we don't have as much access to technology as we'd like. Learning a new language can be challenging, so I always try to make interactive and fun lessons that will get students interested and motivated in their learning. Although the lessons help them progress, I would also like for my students to be exposed to a variety of paths they can take in order to promote their learning. iPads have applications that students can use in order to practice what they have learned and get them excited about what they know. Many students also don't have access to technology outside of school so exposing them at an early age to something they'll use in our technologically advancing world is also very important. Whether it's playing learning games on applications, writing, typing, drawing, and/or reading, many students will benefit from these iPads for years to come.
