My Students

Financial literacy is an issue that should command our attention and is an important thing for kids to understand at a young age. We would like to use iPad minis to help us develop an understanding of financial literacy.

I have the privilege of teaching 25 wonderful and inspiring first grade students each day.

My students come to school eager to learn and discuss the material that we are learning. My students have a variety of needs that I strive to meet within the classroom through differentiated learning and small group work. We endeavor to identify areas where students can showcase their gifts and talents and areas where students can improve. We believe that every child is gifted, and that it is our job to uncover those gifts!

My Project

We will define money earned as income, identify income as a means to obtaining goods and services, understand the need to differentiate between wants and needs, and distinguish between spending and saving. My students will gain knowledge of vocabulary relating to financial literacy and see the vocabulary come to life through real-life experiences with money. My students will also gain awareness of how economics is in everything we do, and will understand the causes and effects that come from economic decisions. Students will work in groups using our iPads to collaborate and determine the way money can be saved and spent.

Contributing to this project will help my students build a strong foundation in financial literacy through engaging, interactive lessons.

My students will be able to better understand the world around them and what it takes to be financially stable. They will develop an understanding of terms and processes that will apply to their everyday lives as adults. This understanding will better prepare them to be responsible, contributing citizens in the communities where they will live.
